From Palm Sunday up to Easter, this blog will commemorate the Holy Week with a daily post describing the scenes of the Passion of Jesus Christ through its manifestation in Art; fundamentally in paintings, but also in some of the sculptures displayed during the Holy Week processions, and following the story as it was told in the four Gospels, taking passages from few different versions of the Bible.
The events that conform the Passion, without taking into account religious or even historic considerations, represent the corner stone of Christianism, that in itself defines de Middle Ages, and from there on sets up the social structure of western civilization.
As such, its influence in Art, which in any case is a reflection of society, is absolutely essential, and as the events of the Passion inspire the artist, also the finished masterpiece determines our own perception of the powerful drama that took place, or may have taken place, nearly two millennia ago in Jerusalem; an occupied city, a sacred city, permanently in turmoil.

A partir del Domingo de Ramos y hasta el Domingo de Resurrección, este blog va a conmemorar la Semana Santa con un post diario siguiendo las escenas de la Pasión de Jesucristo a través de su expresión en el arte; fundamentalmente en la pintura, pero también en algunas tallas que se exhiben en los pasos procesionales, y todo ello siguiendo el relato de los cuatro Evangelios recopilado de diferentes versiones de la Biblia.
Los eventos que conforman la Pasión, independientemente de consideraciones religiosas e incluso históricas, son la piedra angular del Cristianismo, que a su vez define la Edad Media y a partir de ahí vertebra las estructura social de la civilización occidental.
Como tal, su influencia en el Arte, que no deja de ser el reflejo de la sociedad, es absolutamente fundamental, y tanto el relato de la Pasión inspira al artista, como la obra acabada condiciona nuestra propia percepción del poderoso drama que tuvo, o pudo tener lugar, hace casi dos milenios en Jerusalén; ciudad ocupada, ciudad sagrada, siempre en conflicto.
